10th August 2017 – P.dello Scoglio che cresce, Scalea
Simon and Jane went to Scalea, Calabria in Italy for a week and dived with Pascuale and ASD Made in Sub. There were 4 Italian divers on the boat, 2 English divers and 1 English snorkeller. It was an early start for the first full day of their holiday, leaving the apartment at 8:15 and walking to the lido for 9am.
Divers: Simon, Jane
Max Depth: 19.9m
Dive Time: 64 minutes
Water Temperature: 25 degrees C at the surface, 20 Degrees C at depth.
Viz: 20m metres
Dive details: The Italian way to dive from a RIB is to inflate the bc, attach it to a bit of string and drop it over the side of the RIB. Then get in the water and put the bc on. We decided to do it our own way, kitting up on the RIB, buddy checks then roll off backwards. We all descended together to about 5 or 6 metres, the two italian men were buddied with their sons and led the way followed by Simon and Jane. There were lots of shoals of small fish with some more interesting species hiding in the crevices. We saw an octopus hiding in a hole but it didn’t want to come out and play. We arrived back at 6 metres after 40 minutes, 3 divers returned to the RIB and 3 of us dived for another 24 minutes. We saw our first ray swim past, it wasn’t recorded on video though.
