7th November 2021 – Stoney Cove
More Sports Diver open water training for Jason, Will and Mark and Dive Leader training for Nigel.
It was another nice day considering it was early November. The first dive took some planning as it had 4 students doing 3 different lessons.
Dive 1
- Divers: Simon, Jason, Mark, Jane, Nigel and Will
- Max Depth: 15.7 metres
- Dive Time: 33 minutes
- Water temperature: 9 degrees C
- Viz: 4-5 metres
- Dive details: Simon, Mark and Jason entered the water first. Mark was using a Surface Marker Buoy (SMB) for the first time. We headed to the viscount cockpit and saw a large pike sheltering inside. We headed further down the slope and did some Alternate Source (AS) exercises and mask clearing. We were joined by Jane, Nigel and Will. Will did the AS exercises and mask clearing. Jane and Nigel ascended with Will and Jason, Simon and Mark headed back underwater to the quayside with the SMB.
Dive 2
- Divers: Simon, Mark and Will, Jason and Nigel
- Max Depth: 5.5 metres
- Dive Time: 10 minutes
- Water temperature: 11 degrees C
- Viz: 4-5 metres
- Dive details: This was quite a long lesson for Mark and Will but only a short time underwater. A stride entry from the quayside, descending down to the platform where they both executed a controlled buoyant lift (CBL) followed by simulated rescue breaths, towing their casualty to the slipway. They then had to dekit their casualty and remove them from the water. We continued the lesson back at the car so that we weren’t in anyone else’s way. Little Annie was used as a substitute for the recovered diver and she was given basic life support. They then used the training AED on little Annie and practiced putting a real diver into the recovery position.
Dive 3
- Divers: Simon, Jason, Mark, Jane, Nigel and Will
- Max Depth: 20.2 metres
- Dive Time: 25 minutes
- Water temperature: 9 degrees C
- Viz: 4-5 metres
- Dive details: Mark and Jason were doing different lessons in this dive, Nigel and Will were diving with the group as their training was complete. We all entered the water and headed to the Nautilus submarine, then descended the wall to the Wessex helicopter. On the other side of the helicopter Jason followed his compass and led us all to the Stanegarth. Jane went through the DSMB exercises with Jason, while Mark used the wreck reel to explore the inside of the tug boat. We all came up the shot line and used the 6 metres safety stop as a simulated decompression stop.
