Clansman, Sea Palling – 31st July 2022
The weather for today was forecast to be better than yesterday so we made arrangements to launch the RIB and all met up in the car park at Sea Palling at 10am. We had a last minute cancellation so that left us with a crew of five. We loaded the RIB, kitted up and were launched just after 11.
We had a bumpy ride out to the wreck site as the sea state wasn’t as flat as it was forecast to be on Saturday. This was a new wreck for everyone onboard but we found it OK. We were diving on a Spring tide and we didn’t have a non diving coxswain so we had to dive the wreck in two waves. When it looked like it would soon be slack, we kitted up and the first 3 went in.
Dive 1
- Divers: Simon, Carol, Kathrin
- Max Depth: 25.8 metres
- Dive Time: 24 minutes
- Water temperature: 16 degrees C
- Viz: 4-5 metres
- Dive details: I rolled over the side of the boat and Carol and Kathrin rolled off the other side. I waited at the buoy for them as they had drifted in the wrong direction due to a combination of a little tide and wind. Once we were all together we descended the shot line and the viz was really good down to about 15 metres. After that, it got a little worse but nothing to be concerned about, in fact I didn’t turn my torch on. As we got to the seabed I saw a few small pieces of wreck buried in the sand and wondered if the grapple was in the wreck or not. When we arrived at the grapple it was just on the edge of the wreck. I tied on my distance line and we continued in the same direction. The wreck had lots of fish on it, mostly bib. We came to a big boiler and turned left, apart from the boiler the wreck was quite flat. Because we were diving on spring tides in two waves it was soon time to turn around and head back to the shot line. We ascended the line and as we got near to the surface I could see that it was raining, we de-kitted and got back onboard. James and Mark already had their hoods on because it was raining so hard, they kitted up and caught the second half of the slack tide. While they were down the rain stopped and the sun came out.
