Wreck dive, Sea Palling – 16th August 2022
An early morning WhatsApp conversation turned into a last minute plan to get the RIB out and go for a dive. We also needed to test out our new stainless steel grapple which had been fabricated by Nigel.
Jane kindly volunteered to be top cover/coxswain while Simon and James dived. When we arrived at the co-ordinates it was almost slack tide so we kitted up and got in.
Dive 1
- Divers: Simon, James
- Max Depth: 17.7 metres
- Dive Time: 62 minutes
- Water temperature: 17 degrees C
- Viz: 5-6 metres
- Dive details: We followed the shot line down and found the grapple on the wreck. I attached my distance line and we set off to explore the wreck. The were several large fish swimming around, lots of velvet crabs and some big lobsters. After about 15 metres the distance line jammed. The visibility was fairly good so I decided to leave the distance line and came back and get it later. We swam around the bow and along the starboard side which was covered in plumose anemones. We had quite a long dive considering it was spring tides. We found the grapple, followed the line to the discarded reel, then reeled it back up.
