Horstead Mill – 18th September 2020
We went to Horstead Mill so that Julie could try out her new wetsuit and check how much weight she needed.
After diving this site earlier in the year it was found to be a safe and shallow place for trainees and ideal for today’s purpose.
- Divers: Simon, Julie
- Max Depth: 3 metres
- Dive Time: 20 minutes
- Water temperature: 15 degrees C
- Viz: 3 metres
- Dive Details: Entered via the steps and walked out to just above waist height so that Julie could test out her weighting. 12Kg turned out to be enough. Immediately Julie saw several perch. We put on our fins and headed off to the deeper water. We saw a lot more perch, roach and a pike. Sometimes it was hard work swimming against the current so we changed direction. I thought I saw a trout but it swam away from me before I could get a good look at it. I did find a wallet on the bottom though and was surprised to discovered cash and cards inside.
- Divers: Simon, Julie
- Max Depth: 3 metres
- Dive Time: 22 minutes
- Water temperature: 15 degrees C
- Viz: 3 metres
- Dive Details: For the second dive we carried out some open water training exercises such as mask clearing and regulator removal. We found a nice spot at about 2 metres where the water wasn’t moving much and settled down and completed the training. The lesson ended with Julie performing a weight belt jettison and we exited via the steps.
