Artemisia, Sea Palling – 13th June 2021
James was doing some repairs on Lowestoft Diver on Saturday and heard from some local divers that the vis was 2m! After a quick check of the tides and weather, a plan soon came together and we arranged to dive the midday HW on Sunday and take the boat for a pleasure trip after.
- Divers: Paul, James
- Max Depth: 24.4 metres
- Dive Time: 36 minutes
- Water temperature: 13 degrees C
- Viz: 2 metres
- Dive Details: As we descended down the shot line, hoping that the seals playing around the boat while we kitted up would join us on the dive, we saw the wreckage from about 2m above the seabed. The grapple was resting on top of a boiler so James followed the shot line a little more and attached the wreck line to the grapple. There was still a little tide as we descended so we tucked in behind the funnel and explored the wreckage in the lee of that. Lots of bib, oaten pipe hydroids and dead mans fingers on the wreck, plus a few edible crabs, lobsters, nudibranchs and anemones. We came back along the line and took a different bearing off from the grapple, following a chimney which is now lying on the seabed. On the way back, we saw torch beams as Nigel and Jane came into view around one of the large boilers and we all ascended together after sorting the grapple. Nice first dive of the year from Lowestoft Diver – here’s hoping for better vis next time!
- Divers: Nigel, Jane
- Max Depth: 23.3 metres
- Dive Time: 33 minutes
- Water temperature: 12 degrees C
- Viz: 2 metres
- Dive Details: Shotline descent – both Nigel and I were a little light. Followed James & Paul to grapple, and reeled off using Nigel’s wreck reel. Swam about until ran out of reel, seeing big crabs, a shoal of Bib and a Wrasse, along with lots of sea anemones. On our return to the grapple (and with gas and time to spare) we took another route for a couple of minutes, taking in the side of one of the boilers, toward the bottom of which, Nigel met Paul & James. We then returned to the grapple once more and met with them again. We refastened the grapple and moved it away from sharp metalwork so that it would be free to lift, and ascended the shotline. Performed a 3 min safety stop and returned to Lowestoft Diver
