14th March 2017 – Red Cross, Puerto del Carmen

  • March 14, 2017July 4, 2020
  • by LSAC

Red Cross is a classic Lanzarote reef, a grey lava flow sweeping down the sandy slope to overhang the wall at 25m. You have to look carefully to find the rewards. The yellow tree coral beneath an overhang, the small moray eels, a purple and yellow striped nudibranch, an anemone with arrow crab, a scorpionfish, even a starfish by itself out on the sand – its the minimalist school of underwater art.

14th March 2017 – The Hole, Puerto del Carmen

  • March 14, 2017July 4, 2020
  • by LSAC

This is one of the most famous dives in Puerto Del Carmen and probably Lanzarote too! It’s mostly likely because of the sense of adventure linked to going through the Blue Hole itself, the amazing vista and clear blue colour as you pass through and the chance of seeing the Dusky Groupers that live there. However, the Blue Hole has much more that this to offer. Having entered the bay in the shallows with its shoals of fish and crossed the eel garden only to enter the Blue Hole with it’s fabulous views, what follows is the cave, full of wildlife to explore and the opportunity to gaze into the deep blue for a chance of seeing visiting sharks, rays and other predatory fish pass by.

4 divers took the opportunity to do a night dive in Playa Chica bay, also known as Pila de la Barrilla. It takes its name from the  custom of locals washing their clothes with soap obtained from saltwort plant.

The beach and bay at Playa Chica are perfect for divers who swim out from here to enjoy the breathtaking underwater scenery including the Shrimp Cave, manta rays and sunken wrecks.

First dive for the other 6 in Playa Chica bay. Playa Chica is teaming with life from the shoals of seabream, white bait, salema, white bream to the colourful parrot fish and wrasse to the more distinct puffer fish and cuttlefish, they are all to be found in the shallows. Ideal dives for open water divers and more advanced and tec divers doing their safety or deco stops.

13th March 2017 – Ritchie’s Place, Puerto del Carmen

Giant walls that go down into the abyss, amazing drop offs, immense sharp rocks, caves, underwater canyons, large sand bars, and arches – all of this makes up a spectacular landscape decorated with a thousand different types of life. The landscape is one of the strong points of this dive because of how varied it is. The nooks in the rocks shelter two orange corals and one small cave that is blanketed with narval shrimps. A great variety of other species can also be seen.

13th March 2017 – The Cathedral, Puerto del Carmen

  • March 13, 2017July 4, 2020
  • by LSAC

This is one of the most popular dives in Lanzarote and it might be because inside the cave called Catedral (Cathedral) lives the most famous animal on the island, the big dusky grouper that local divers call Felix. This dive is comfortable and very complete; there are vertical walls to search for hidden life, immense cliffs where stingrays and angel sharks can be observed, caves with all types of fauna and even a small wreck if you are interested in getting close to it.
