13th March 2017 – The Cathedral, Puerto del Carmen

This is one of the most popular dives in Lanzarote and it might be because inside the cave called Catedral (Cathedral) lives the most famous animal on the island, the big dusky grouper that local divers call Felix. This dive is comfortable and very complete; there are vertical walls to search for hidden life, immense cliffs where stingrays and angel sharks can be observed, caves with all types of fauna and even a small wreck if you are interested in getting close to it.

Lanzarote

A trip to Lanzarote was planned for 8 divers, 2 arrived a day before the rest so they started their diving before the others.

In preparation for the Lanzarote trip next month 4 members went to Stoney Cove to get some diving practice. Hopefully the temperature in Lanzarote will be warmer in March than the -2 degrees C it was in the UK. It had snowed the night before but that didn’t seem to put off all the other divers who filled the bottom car park. We all arrived just before 10 and managed to park next to each other. I though we were mad going diving in such cold conditions but some people were doing it in wetsuits!

15th January 2017 – Gildenburgh

Alex suggested that we should go to Gildenburgh to do the first dive of the year but due to slipping on the ice, cracking his head and visiting A&E after an LSAC night out on Friday he was advised not to dive. Unfortunately the rest of us didn’t have an excuse not to go. 3 cars left Lowestoft around 7am and met up for the traditional breakfast at Swafham. The weather wasn’t very good, it was grey and overcast with constant light rain, but after our pit stop we continued with the journey and checked it at the dive site at 9:20. Surprisingly, there were a lot of other divers there.

14th August 2016 – Alto, off Lowestoft

On the way back to Lowestoft after the morning dive Mark Crame plotted a shallow wreck into the GPS and we made a plan to come back in the afternoon and dive it. The divers and RIB were all refuelled and we headed off. As we got closer to the site it looked like another boat had beaten us to it. A boat was already over the dive site, so we pulled up alongside to talk to him, it was Jeff on his boat (Timmo2). It was decided to leave Jeff to it and dive a different site. We soon found the wreck of the Alto and grappled into something on the second attempt. Kitted up and entered the water.

14th August 2016 – Ambient, off Lowestoft

The forecast looked good for a RIB dive on Sunday and the majority of divers preferred to dive the high water slack tide which meant we had to meet at the RNSYC at 6am. We used the new cylinder lifting platform for the first time and it worked really well. We left the port on high water and headed 6 miles South East of Lowestoft just off Kessingland. After several failed attempts to grapple into the wreck we finally hooked into something. Jane had problems with her regs and had to stay up top with Mark Crame.

10th July 2016 – SS Vera, Cley next the…

The wind was too strong and blowing in the wrong direction to go out on the RIB so Mark Crame planned a shore dive off the North Norfolk coast to dive the wreck of the SS Vera. We all met up at the pay and display car park at Cley next the sea at 11am

Due to changeable conditions we identified a small window of opportunity to conduct a dive reasonably close to Lowestoft. It’s been a number of years since anyone in our club dived the Silkworth Hall and this seemed like the perfect time for someone to plan our return.
