The first dive of the year for 2 members, having not dived since October 2020 due to Covid travel restrictions. On entry to the site, we were warned that the vis at shallow depths was particularly poor and that we should observe our separation procedure, that the water temperature was no higher than last time we’d visited, and that we should take extra precautions, as many divers had experienced regulator free-flows!

Open water training for Ocean Diver trainees Julie and Claire. Instructed by Simon and assisted by Jane. The weather wasn’t very good, dull and raining most of the day but that didn’t seem to put anyone off and the students remained enthusiastic.

We decided not to do a second dive off Sea Palling after the early morning disappointment, so after washing the RIB and packing up our kit we drove 14 miles to somewhere we knew the viz would be better.

The weather forecast looked really good for taking the RIB out, it was another early start but the sunrise made it worth while. 3 of us had dived the Alice Taylor last week but Paul hadn’t so we decided to go there again.

After missing the wreck previously, we arrived early and did a grid search where we saw large drop offs of 5-6m then flat again, confusing. Either way, we shot the wreck on our third attempt and suddenly realised it was slack water!!!
